[DSL] Why does VDSL feel so much faster than ADSL?

I upgraded from ADSL to VDSL. Although it went up only 10mbps it feels a lot, lot faster than just an increase in 10mbps. But I did test speeds regularly on both and both always gave the speeds I paid for. I got exactly what I was supposed to get. My friend stayed the week at our house and he honestly thought I have the new Rogers 100 offer. When I told him it was only 25mbps he said it feels as fast as what he has (100mbps) on Rogers. I had to do a speed test in front of him because he thought I was mistaken . I told him to check his speeds when he gets home in case his internet is slow or some issues. He did and it was at or near 100 on cable . He was blown away. My question is this: Is VDSL somehow "faster" than it seems (don't know how that is possible) or is there really is no difference in human identifiable speed on our end? Is it all really just a "number" beyond a certain point? I will say this before people say "multiple devices" etc. My home has about 4 users on at any given time and never had issues. He lives alone and still was impressed how fast my internet was and this is 25mbps vs 100 mbps. So does it matter beyond a certain point? Or is cable somehow slower than VDSL? I will say VDSL feels a lot faster and smoother than ADSL.
