I ordered StartTV on December 13. The set top box was shipped to North Bay and arrived within 3 days.
Both the Inspur STB and the beta web interface (beta.watch.start.tv) work great for me although I haven't yet tried to record anything. I do get the odd errors people have been mentioning but usually just hitting the back/exit key gets things going again. I am looking forward to better frame rates, VOD, and other features as they becom available.
I sideloaded the Start.TV apk on two Amazon Fire TV Sticks (4K version.) I can control and watch TV no problem but the interface is a bit wonky to work with as it's not the correct app for those devices. On the Start.ca website, it says Amazon Fire will be supported soon. I hope that means all Amazon Fire devices including Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Rocca, if you need a beta tester for the Amazon version of the Start.TV app when availabe, I would be happy to oblige.
I installed Start.TV from the Google Playstore on an HK1 Android device and although it started up fine, its remote and keyboard wouldn't control anything. I decided to flash the device with an atvXperience custom rom to see if it would work and low and behold, the remote and keyboard now function correctly with the Start.TV app.
I also installed Start.TV from the Google Playstore on a T95Z Plus Android device and have the same issue with remote not able to control the app. I'm interested in knowing if others have had similar remote control issues with their non-supported devices. Were you able to resolve it, and if so, how did you go about it? Hopefully there's an easier method than re-flashing firmware as it's not for the faint of heart and can easily brick your device. Maybe it's as simple as some config file that needs tweaking. I'll keep searching for an answer. Failing that, I'll likely look at flashing it with a different rom as well to see if it fixes it.
I must say that I'm happy with the service so far and have cancelled my Cogeco.
